Great news! At VMworld 2014 in San Francisco, AMAX’s CloudMax™ Converged Cloud Infrastructure Solution was named the Gold winner of the prestigious Best of VMworld 2014 Award in the category of Private Cloud Computing Technologies. This marks the second award this year for the CloudMax™ product as earlier this year, the CloudMax™ private cloud platform also received the prestigious 2014 Server Innovation Award by Intel for Best Data Center Product. 2014 has certainly been a year of industry recognition for the AMAX CloudMax™ Converged Cloud Infrastructure platform.

AMAX wins best of VMWorld

This is the 11th year that the Best of VMworld Awards have been presented to recognize the most exceptional products on display at VMware’s annual user conference. Winners are chosen based on a matrix of criteria including product innovation, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, etc. AMAX’s CloudMax™ outperformed other competitors in the Private Cloud Computing category to clinch its position as the Gold Winner, beating out finalist Red Hat. So what makes CloudMax™ so special?

AMAX, a leading provider of cloud/IaaS, Big Data, and HPC platforms, developed the CloudMax™ Converged Cloud Infrastructure platform to be a turnkey private cloud solution featuring Facebook-inspired Open Compute (OCP) hardware seamlessly integrated with the CloudMax™ OpenStack software suite. The software features a centralized management GUI for automated machine discovery, allocation, configuration, provisioning and total management of the OpenStack cloud environment, as well as multi-hypervisor integration and support, including for VMware’s vSphere ESXi. SDN support capabilities are also available for a total software-defined private cloud solution.

CloudMax™ can also be deployed as a cloud platform compatible with cloud operating systems outside of the CloudMax™ software. For customers who are using VMware’s vSphere and are looking for a more cost-effective way to scale their infrastructure, CloudMax™’s hardware platform is also validated with vSphere and can be deployed as a vSphere platform with vSphere loaded in place of the CloudMax™  software, giving customers the ultimate flexibility in how they want to deploy and scale their cloud.

“We saw a need in the market for a total converged solution built specifically for private cloud infrastructure, and we designed CloudMax™ to be a product that addressed the needs and pain points of today’s market as a solution that makes the most sense,” said Jean Shih, President, AMAX. “CloudMax™ is a product that is both compatible VMware vSphere, or can be built using the most efficient open hardware and software components to optimize cost and flexibility, delivered fully integrated and ready to run applications within days. It’s a complete private cloud solution.”

“We are extremely happy that AMAX’s CloudMax™ solution has won Best of VMworld,” said Cole Crawford, Executive Director, Open Compute Foundation.  “This win should further validate the fact that Open Compute is not just a platform for innovation but a de facto OEM alternative, ready for enterprise adoption.”

“Not only did AMAX CloudMax™ demonstrate high potential of Intel processing power in a highly dense and efficient cloud platform, but it’s a well-developed cloud infrastructure that allows data centers to quickly get their cloud up and running, with the agility and efficiency to nimbly respond to business demands,” said by CJ Bruno, president of Intel Americas, Inc.

With two awards so far, CloudMax™ shows a lot of promise as a revolutionary way for enterprises to build out private clouds and consolidating sprawling IT infrastructures that had previous been structured in silos, allowing better convergence of IT resources, business agility to respond to application needs and ability to scale flexibly in a cost- and resource-efficient manner.

If you are an enterprise looking into building your own private cloud, or would like to find a solution for how to run your data center more efficiently, please contact AMAX!

Many enterprises are considering deploying private clouds, but concerns persist. Will they have the resources and knowledge-base to build their own? Who will support the resulting infrastructure? What will the private cloud really cost to build?

This presentation features Matt Thauberger, Director of Sales at AMAX, and Jay Muelhoefer, VP of Marketing at Platform Computing. They will discuss cloud appliances as an alternative to building your own private cloud, covering topics such as:

  • What business challenge does a cloud appliance address?
  • What is a cloud appliance, including feature set and functionality?
  • What is the business value in deploying a cloud appliance?
  • Who might potentially benefit by deploying a cloud appliance?

April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, but experts are predicting clouds in the forecast. Except these clouds have a different meaning and according to analyst firm, IDC, “public cloud services adoption is growing 30 percent.” However, entrusting the public cloud has ongoing concerns about reliability and security. With major public cloud outages running rampant recently, affecting Amazon Web Services, the Sony Playstation Network and Yahoo Mail, has emphasized the need for enterprises, especially SMBs,  to take more control of their data and cloud infrastructures.

The best way to lower risk is to diversify and consider a more reliable cloud infrastructure, such as a private cloud solution, that offers cloud management automation, unified threat management, and advanced hardware engineering. To help companies accelerate private cloud adoption and also provide a safer and more reliable alternative to the public cloud, AMAX introduced the AMAX CloudMax solution that is a ready-to-deploy and secure total private cloud appliance solution, allowing enterprises to focus on delivering their core business value rather than on worrying about the next public cloud outage.
