Buyer

Summary / Purpose:
Purchasing buyers perform a variety of purchasing functions, including locating and meeting with manufacturers, distributors, and other sources for best quality, pricing, and lead time on products. Buyers also check back orders, issue PO, and coordinate with Accounting, RTV, Shipping, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Service, and Technical Support Departments to for timely product delivery to the customers. Finally, buyers generate weekly sell-through reports, follow up with Marketing on product turnover; and help with any RTV return issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, implement, and manage activities to procure the required goods and services in a timely, cost-effective manner;
  • Place order, negotiate price, oversee product shipment schedule;
  • Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships;
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels;
  • Coordinate with production to meet the requirements of the production schedule and avoid shortages;
  • Provide weekly sell-through reports for specific product lines;
  • Provide daily shortage & past-due reports;
  • Manage inventory levels for specific product lines;
  • Coordinate periodic cost reduction programs, handling aggressive price negotiation/delivery schedules, while maintaining component quality levels;
  • Coordinate with Accounting, RTV, Shipping, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Service, and Technical Support Departments to for timely product delivery to the customers.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts;
  • Coordinate with RTV on product returns.

  • Job Requirements:
  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering or related field plus 2 years experience in purchasing of computer components, sales, or marketing environments preferred;
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with relevant experience to support prior development of core competency;
  • Proven ability to research and apply critical information to evaluate product/cost analysis for competitive pricing and positioning;
  • Demonstrated ability in the purchasing process of research, analysis and sourcing of components;
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Ability to provide product/cost management, including accurate forecast of product costs to avoid price erosion;
  • Ability to convert research analysis into recommendations for product management;
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Advanced Excel a must;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Work effectively and accurately under narrow time limitations.
